Swiss - Latvian cooperation programme is guided to two targets:
1) to promote reduction of economic and social disparities between Latvia and the most progressive countries within the enlarged European Union;
2) to promote reduction of economic and social disparities between dynamic centres of cities and structurally weak regions of periphery.
Agency for International Programs for Youth implements Swiss-Latvian cooperation programme "Support for the Development of Youth Initiatives in Peripheral or Disadvantaged Regions".
The overall objective of the the programme "Support for the Development of Youth Initiatives in Peripheral and Disadvantaged Regions" is diminution of social inequality and differences between developed and less developed regions.
The main activities/components of the Programme are:
1) establishment of 17 multifunctional youth initiative centres in peripheral or disadvantaged regions;
2) organization of trainings and events for youth and trainings for persons involved in youth work as well as elaboration of methodological and training materials.
Project offers possibility to:
-create a healthy, open and supporting environment for young people that would turn them into active and concerned citizens of Latvia;
-indirect participation in the personal growth of young people;
-promote co-operation of young people and local societies, including local municipalities;
-promote popularization of non-formal education and voluntary work and its acknowledgement in the society.
